This morning before work I was watching
Fox News. Since my dad and sister live 30 miles northeast up the coast from
Corpus Christi, Texas, I wanted to get the latest news about hurricane Rita.
In the span of thirty seconds, I went from deep concern about the storm and
the threat it posed to my family to complete anger. What made me so angry
was an anti-war commercial featuring four grieving women portrayed much in
the same way as
Cindy Sheehan.
Once again these women espoused the same
tired
rhetoric
about the war that’s been replayed like an endless loop tape
by liberals since the beginning of the war. The women stated plaintively and
repeatedly, “You lied to us Mr. President, there were no weapons of mass
destruction.” Their plea was ultimately demanding the President to “admit
your mistakes” and pull out of Iraq before more of our troops get killed for
“your unjust war.” With this overused rhetoric as proof, it’s easy for
anyone to quickly figure out who was behind this advertisement. The
antiwar
commercial is a just another replay of the same liberal talking points
originated by and kept alive by Cindy Sheehan, Michael Moore and fringe groups like
Move-On.

The underlying motive of
discrediting the President Bush and the current administration is completely transparent.
Once again it shows the left’s utter disdain for the sacrifices made by our
fallen soldiers. Perhaps unwittingly, these antiwar mothers spit on the
graves of their fallen loved ones. They’re complicit in dishonoring the
fallen heroes and living soldiers who are proud of their achievements and still truly believe in their mission.
During the commercial, the women stated
that Iraq had
no connection to the 9-11 attacks and they asked what their
loved ones died for. It’s unfortunate that the liberal’s memories and their
talking points are like cheesecloth, they’re both conveniently full of
holes. They always seem to forget that Saddam Hussein was a big supporter of
Middle East terrorism providing compensation to the families of Palestinian
suicide bombers. Hussein did have WMD. He used them on his own people. Iraq
did have strong connections to Al Qaeda, providing terror training
facilities at
Salman Pak. Saddam Hussein did provide
sanctuary for and medical aid to Al Qaeda’s Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi and others. Saddam Hussein
repeatedly disregarded and failed to comply with over 17 United Nations
sanctions related to inspections for WMD and routinely aggressively engaged
coalition aircraft patrolling the U.N. sanctioned “No Fly Zones.”
Once again the liberals have forgotten
these irrevocable facts and have produced another antiwar message based
solely on emotion, not on truth, facts, or historical record. They seem
happy to present their message built on emotion and half truths to America
and the world uncaring or possibly counting on the end result.
Just ask yourself. Why would the
liberals so strongly promote pulling our troops and the coalition forces out
of Iraq so prematurely? It is because they realize that if we leave now an
unstable Iraq would quickly fall into civil war. The end product would
ultimately leave a more dangerous Middle East leading to a cataclysmic
political defeat for the
Bush Administration. This subversive goal of the
liberals puts America, the Middle East and the world at much greater risk
and sends the wrong message to our enemies.
When we first went to war with Iraq,
President
Bush was honest and stated that the war and our involvement in
securing Iraq could take at least five years or more. He told us that it
would take dedication and perseverance. President Bush has not wavered one
bit since that state of the Union Address he gave over two years ago. The
mission is still the same and the goals are still unchanged.
We have had several successes in the war
including the removal of Saddam Hussein, the rebuilding of infrastructure,
the training of an Iraqi military, first ever elections, the establishment
of a democratic government and soon the creation of Iraq’s first democratic
constitution will be finalized.
Yes, the
insurgency is a problem but the
antiwar opposition here in the U.S. needs to keep in mind that their
rhetoric only aids the enemy giving them incentive to continue. Americans
who truly care about long term future peace for America and the world need
to support our President and the war effort. Our success in Iraq will
ultimately lead to the democratization, modernization and stabilization of
the Middle East and a decrease in Middle East supported terrorism.
